Coming mid-May to the UK
Samsung Galaxy S: Gingerbread update... attempt no.2

Samsung has announced that it will be having another bash at rolling out the Android Gingerbread update to users of the Samsung Galaxy S handset - after it ballsed up the first attempt.

Users of the device, which first hit the shops packing ?clair (Android 2.1) back in March 2010, will be able to get hold of Android 2.3 via Samsung's (awful) Kies application from mid-May.

The update will bring:

? Faster Performance – Multimedia content now has a lower CPU consumption rate, while support for more powerful 3D Graphics enables an enhanced mobile gaming experience.
? Upgraded Usability – The user interface has been improved, enabling faster access and control and a more intuitive user experience. Users will also benefit from improved copy-and-paste functionality.

Sammy also confirmed, as reported last week on Pocket-lint, that Android 2.3 is being rolled-out for Galaxy Tab users, as well as peeps rocking the Galaxy Ace/ Gio / Fit and mini handsets too.

Update: Samsung Uk has contacted us to re-iterate:

"The upgrade path in the UK (for the Galaxy Family range of devices) will begin with the Galaxy S from late May and the availability of the software upgrade will be dependent upon each network’s own software approvals process."
