Also arriving later than planned?
Oh dear - put this one down as potentially a mess-up of royal proportions (in the tech word at least). If it's accurate that is.
Remember the three Asus Android tablets announced over in Vegas at CES 2011 - the Eee Pad Transformer, the Eee Pad Slide and the Eee Pad MeMo - and remember how the accompanying press release read that they would be packing Android 3.0 (Honeycomb)?
Well, Asus might like you to forget that - because the tabs may not be rocking Honeycomb after all, but more likely will be packing Gingerbread when they launch later on this year (in Q3).
Asus marketing specialist John Swatton told The Inquirer that because Asus didn't know the detailed technical requirements of Android 3.0, it could not confirm that Honeycomb will be the tablets' OS.?
He described the announcement that the tabs would definitely be packing Honeycomb as "a mistake".
A mistake indeed it could be, as the Motorola Xoom and an, as yet, unnamed Toshiba tablet will both be landing in 2011 packing Android 3.0, Asus might well just find itself playing catch up before it's even got started.
We'll be talking to Asus ourselves to clarify this issue, so make sure you check back for updates.
Update: Pocket-lint did some digging and we uncovered that any lack of Honeycomb will only be down to Google not releasing the Android OS update in time for the Eee Pad launches. Check out our story for all the details.
