Becomes Galaxy Tab 10.1V
Contrary to previous reports, after an extensive bout of digging and chatting to the parties involved, Pocket-lint can reveal that Samsung won’t be dumping the first iteration of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
While Samsung has announced that the Americas will be getting a thinner, lighter and newly designed model on 8 June, both the UK's Vodafone and Samsung representatives tell us that the carrier will be sticking with the original device, launched at Mobile World Congress in February. To prevent confusion though, it will be?rebranded?the Galaxy Tab 10.1V.
“The Galaxy Tab 10.1V remains a Vodafone exclusive and will still be one of the first Android 3.0 devices to launch. We'll announce pricing and availability in due course,” a Vodafone spokesperson has told Pocket-lint.
Wait, what?
That’s right, following the fanfare-filled announcement at CTIA in Orlando, Florida of a new super slim design, it’s not going to change anything with the initial British release. And Samsung tells us the new model may not even make it to the UK.
It's not all negative though, as while it may have a beefier waistline (admittedly by only 2.3mm), the 10.1V?features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera in comparison to the 3-megapixel on the device now known as the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
For better or for worse, Vodafone has also confirmed to Pocket-lint that the 10.1V does not feature the Touchwiz UI demoed at CTIA by Samsung.
UPDATE:?Just on this, the 10.1 Tab from Samsung is going to be available in both the 10.9mm and 8.6mm versions in the UK
