Jesse Jackson Jr: Jobs will soon cease to exist because of Apple iPad

That's American jobs, not Steve Jobs
Jesse Jackson Jr

Jesse Jackson Jr, the US Rep for?Illinois's 2nd congressional district, has told the?House of Representatives that the Apple iPad is "probably?responsible for eliminating thousands of American jobs."

He blames the device for the closure of libraries and book stores, such as Borders and Barnes and Noble, and the liquidation of publishing companies: "Borders is closing stores because why do you need to go to Borders anymore? Why do you need to go to Barnes and Noble? [You can] buy an iPad and download your book. Download your newspaper. Download your magazine.

"Chicago State University, in my congressional district, in Freshman class, they're not being given text books any longer, they're all being given iPads as they enter school. What becomes of publishing companies then? What becomes of publishing company jobs?"

Certainly, the outlook, he believes is bleak: "Jobs that depend on paper? In the not-too-distant future, such jobs will not exist."

However, only a few weeks ago, Rep Jackson Jr was singing the praises of the iPad and devices like it: "These devices are revolutionising our country,’ he?said to the House at the time, while brandishing an iPad and a Kindle. "And they will revolutionise the way we educate our children."

So what has changed his mind?

Maybe he's just gotten bored of Angry Birds like the rest us.
