ZiiLabs Announces Quad Core and Dual Core Chips for Honeycomb Tablets: ZMS-20 and ZMS-40

ZiiLabs has just announced new dual-core and quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 systems-on-chip clocked at 1.5GHz, just like the HTC Flyer. However, HTC’s device is a single core unit with performances that can’t compare to those of the future quad-core tablets. ZiiLabs intends to launch these processors on Honeycomb tablets.

The earlier generation of system on chip solutions created by ZiiLabs was taken over by parent company Creative, who used it on the ZiiO tablets. This means that among others, we could see new ZiiO tablets with dual core and quad core system on chip solutions. ZMS-20 is a dual 1.5GHz ARM Cortex-A9 solution, supporting 1080p video playback and immersive OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics and HD video calling.

Meanwhile, ZMS-40 wasn’t that much detailed, but we suppose it’ll at least double the dual core’s performance or maybe be 5 times stronger, just like the Tegra 3 is when compared  to the Tegra 2. Now let’s see what other companies adopt this technology.
