Thanks to the fine folks at NVIDIA and Sega, I’ve been playing Sonic 4: Episode II on the ASUS Transformer Prime with the Logitech Wireless controller. I was pressured by my friends to get the Xbox 360 version, but I honestly have no need — the Tegra HD version looks just as good, and I can just as easily hook my tablet up to my TV using an HDMI cable.

I can use it while it’s inside its tablet dock. I can get my Sonic 4 fix on the go, and I can download it on other Tegra 3 devices. It was a no-brainer even if I did have to pay for it. Be sure to find Sonic 4: Episode II in TegraZone and the Google Play Store.

Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE and AT&T HTC One X Delayed – Apple To Blame

This image has no alt text

Two of HTC’s heavy hitters — the HTC EVO 4G LTE and HTC One X — are facing shipping delays here in the states due to a U.S. Customs investigation. Apparently, both devices are being examined to ensure they aren’t in violation of an International Trade Commission exclusion order over Apple patent #5,946,647 (having to do with clickable links inside messaging and browser apps). HTC was supposed to have taken care of the issue but in a statement today, HTC announced:

"The US availability of the HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE has been delayed due to a standard U.S. Customs review of shipments that is required after an ITC exclusion order. We believe we are in compliance with the ruling and HTC is working closely with Customs to secure approval. The HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE have been received enthusiastically by customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to get these products into their hands as soon as possible."

Take a quick jump onto AT&T’s website, and you’ll notice both grey and white version of the One X are currently “out of stock,” and now it seems the EVO 4G LTE wont make its intended May 18th debut on Sprint.

HTC has been faced with ongoing legal troubles from Apple over patents on a few specific HTC devices and although it’s unclear why only these 2 HTC devices were targeted, we can only imagine Apple had something to do with this. The end of 2011 wasn’t the best year for the Taiwanese manufacturer and HTC was hoping hoping to get a good start on 2012 by beating the Samsung Galaxy S3 out of the gate. This would help them gain some of that valuable market share they’ve been losing to the GS2.

Let’s hope we wont have to wait too long before we can one again get our hands on arguably, the finest devices Android has to offer. Will this delay affect anyone’s decision to get their hands on the EVO LTE before the Galaxy S3 arrived? Let’s pretend for a second that this delay pushes the EVO LTE to launch right around the same time as the S3. Which would you choose?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Could be Banned in the USA, Apple Case Reopened (Video)

Remember when Apple and Samsung were suing each other because of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1? The tablet caused so much controversy, that in the end even Samsung admitted something was wrong and changed its design and launched the Galaxy Tab 10.1N version. If you thought that the case was gone, well, although Samsung kind of got rid of all charges when they showed the video below (found here) and the fact that the tablet format was present many years ago in concept videos, now the case is reopen.

The Appeals Court for the Federal Circuit, handling patent related appeals in the USA revived the case Apple versus Samsung on account of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 copying the iPad’s design. Initially the ruling was in favour of Samsung thanks to the video below and proof that the iPad format existed many years before Apple came up with it. Now the court reversed the decision and Samsung is once again in trouble. The argument with the 1990s Knight Rider device was invalidated and has Samsung in a stretch again.

This case affects the USA and could see the Galaxy Tab 10.1 disappearing from shops. Anyway that’s already and old model, so it’s not big of a deal. However, will the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and Galaxy Note 10.1 have to go through the same thing?

ASUS PadFone Official Promo Video is Lengthy, Detailed (Video)

A couple of days ago ASUS had to pull an official video regarding the ASUS PadFone battery from the web, because it promised unrealistic functioning times. Now a lengthy official promo video was published and it may or may not be related to that one. What’s for sure is that this clip gives you the much needed information on the most innovative gadget I’ve seen in 2012.

This product also received a prize for being so original and advanced back at CES 2012. The PadFone is preparing for release in the following weeks and I mean a wide release, since it’s already available in Taiwan. The promo video below highlights the major specs and features of the convertible smartphone/tablet/laptop combo. Among them there’s the very original function of the capacitive stylus, that also acts as a Bluetooth headset and allows you pick up calls easily. Other stuff advertised here is the sleeve case, doubling up as a stand and some bonus accessories,  like cleaning cloth, stylus holder and a SIM card pocket.

The same clip promises 102 hours combined for the 3 devices together (phone + tablet and keyboard dock), but of course that’s talk time (on 2GB most likely). You may also want to know that the 3G browsing time clocks in at 14.1 hours, a very nice performance for any gadget on the market. This hybrid was priced at about 699 euros last I heard, but it may drop as time passes. Keep in mind that powering the entire unit there’s a good Snapdragon S4 dual core processor, the most popular choice in chipsets in early 2012. Excited about this product?

SoulCraft THD Review – a Very Interesting Hack and Slash RPG (Video)

Since we had the ASUS Transformer Pad 300 for a review, we decided to also review a very cool game from the Tegra Zone area: SoulCraft THD. It’s a free game, but it’s currently in beta mode… still it’s a very promising title, that I liked very much, especially because of the addictive gameplay.

We’re dealing with a hack and slash title that also has some RPG elements. You play with the demons, angels or humans in the eternal battle between good and evil. This demo only lets you control an angel and the venues you fight in are the familiar towns of Venice, New York and a couple more that you have to unlock. Challenges include reaching a portal in a limited amount of time, defeating all demons in an arena, protecting crystals and a boss fight. As you progress, the fights become more difficult and challenging.

You’ll find chests with items, collect souls from vanquished enemies and level up as fights go by. You also have potions and spells, that can prove useful when you’re outnumbered. There’s a virtual analog stick on the screen used for moving around and a special button to push in order to change the weapon. Also, on the sides you’ll find the spells buttons and at the bottom of the screen you have the life and mana. I connected a PS3 joystick to the tablet dock and had a lot of fun with it. A very entertaining title that can be considered some sort of Mini Diablo if you want…

Week One TegraZone Anniversary Contest: What’s your favorite TegraZone game?

Are you guys ready for the first week’s TegraZone anniversary and Player’s Choice Awards contest courtesy of NVIDIA? We know we are. If you aren’t in the know, NVIDIA’s just hit their one-year anniversary with TegraZone and they’re holding a Player’s Choice Awards! You can also snap a photo of the QR code directly below.

You’ll get the chance to vote for your favorite games in three categories, including best graphical game, best gameplay, and best overall game. With your vote, you’re entered for a chance to win one of 7 Transformer Pad TF300 prize packs. More details on that specific contest are here.

But there will be three more chances to win a prize pack with the good folks of Phandroid! We’ll be holding a contest every week for the next three weeks, with three prize packs to be given away in all. The first contest starts today so you’ll want to read through the bottom for more details.

  • Up for grabs today (May 11th, 2012) is one ASUS Transformer Pad 300 prize pack. The prize pack includes the ASUS Transformer Pad 300, a special NVIDIA themed JAMBOX by Jawbone, a keyboard dock compatible with the Pad 300, and a wireless controller. Running the latest Android™ 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the ASUS Transformer Pad is a value packed tablet that with multi-color style, and productivity with expandability when connected to the mobile dock. • The winner will be chosen at random.
  • If we can not get in contact with you within a 24 hour time period, a new random winner will be selected. This will continue until a winner is determined.
  • If you don’t use real contact information, we can’t send you real cool stuff!

And that’s all there is to it! Why don’t I start off by giving you guys an idea of what my favorite TegraZone game is? It’s only the first game to set the 3D GTA craze. That would be Grand Theft Auto 3, and it’s  not just because there’s nostalgic value packed into such a cheap download.

If I tried to play GTA 3 on my old PS2, it would look downright insulting on an HDTV. The TegraZone version is high definition, has just as many, if not more, particle effects, great draw distance and I can’t take my PS2 on the go.

It’d be great if we could get all the PS2/Xbox versions of Grand Theft Auto on TegraZone, but the Liberty City whirlwind is more than enough for me at this point. Get started in the comments section below!

Apple to Give Up Google Maps in iOS 6.0, Go With Own Solution (Video)

Apple will apparently get rid of Google Maps in the next iOS iteration and use an in-house solution instead, according to a source quoted by 9to5mac. The new app is said to be much faster, cleaner and more efficient and it also has a kickass 3D mode, apparently.

The 3D technology is provided by C3 Technologies, a 3D mapping company that Apple bought last year. When that happened many speculated that Apple would be preparing its very own maps app and you can see in the video below what the folks of C3 can come up with. There’s also a comparison above of what Google Maps offers right now and what the “iMaps” or Apple Maps could offer us. From what I know Nokia is also working on something that looks and feels exactly the same, so the war will be tough on this front.

I also have to mention that Apple previously bought not only C3, but also Poly9 and Placebase, also experts in mapping solutions. Is Apple’s mapping app ready to showcase at WWDC 2012? We’ll see next month, when a glimpse into iOS 6.0 is expected and if we’re lucky maybe a new iPhone, or at least the iPad Mini…

iOS 5.1 iPad Untethered Jailbreak Gets Teased by Pod2G (Video)

If you’re one of the people playing with an iPad with iOS 5.1 on board, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s an untethered jailbreak coming for you. The teaser below confirms it and the work belongs to pod2g, who took the project to a pretty advanced phase.

You can see Cydia here and a ton of apps listed, plus notice that the Apple tablet is booting on its own, without a computer. The full untethered jailbreak should come soon and I expect Apple to patch things up as soon as they release another iOS update. I wonder if Cydia holds any apps specifically created for the Retina Display on the iPad 3, since that would be really cool. Once again, I recommend you wait for the full release and all bugs to be corrected, before trying this untethered hack.

Since I’m still curios about the Cydia thing, is there anyone out there who can tell me if there are any Retina Display apps available in it? And by Retina I mean those created for the iPad 3, not the iPhone 4/4S.

HTC EVO 4G LTE unboxing and hands-on [video]

We’ve finally gotten our hands on a review unit of the HTC EVO 4G LTE. I took the device back to my hotel eager to bring you guys a look at the device’s packaging, as well as what to expect when the device hits your doorstep as this is pretty much what you’ll get at retail. The device’s 1.5GHz S4 processor and 1GB of RAM make for a snappy software experience, and HTC Sense 4.0 also contributes to that smooth experience by optimizing in ways that previous renditions haven’t.

The 8 megapixel camera is one of the stars of the show thanks to the ImageSense technology inside. And after handling this device personally, I have no qualms with the design at all. Looking at it in a press render or even through a video doesn’t do it justice. Watch our unboxing and second hands-on video above. Stay on the lookout for more HTC EVO 4G LTE coverage, including a look at some sample photos and video and a full review coming up very shortly!

Samsung Galaxy Note Receives Android 4.0! Available NOW With Premium Suite Apps! (Video)

The news of the day is that Samsung Galaxy Note has finally received the long awaited Android 4.0 ICS update, that’s available right now. Galaxy Note N7000 should have received the update much earlier, since it must’ve already surpassed the 6-7 million mark of units sold, so it’s a very popular and important device.

A few users have been receiving notifications that the firmware upgrade with Android 4.0 included is here. The Premium Suite apps are also in the mix, in case you’re wondering. Such firmware updates are usually released regionally, so you’ll have to wait a bit for the release. The XDA Developers community found out that this is the XXLPY Android 4.0.3 build with a build date of May 4. Right now in Germany people are receiving the update via Kies and if you have extra details in other countries, feel free to post them in the Comments area.

What’s the Premium Suite, you ask? An enhancement of multimedia features and new S Pen optimized applications. There’s a new S Note app, that allows you to create your own notebook on the device with 7 templates available: Note, Meeting Note, Idea Note, Magazine, Travel, Diary and Recipe. There’s also the Automatic Shape Correction feature in this mix, helping you straighten up lines and create rectangular shapes easily, so if you want to make charts on your phablet everything works out fine.

The Premium suite allows you to save PDF files and gives you the new My Store app, that allows you to create multimedia letters and cards. Excited for this release?
