Android Honeycomb 3.1 isn’t that much of an improvement, to be honest, since we were expecting more important upgrades. The real deal is the Android Ice Cream version, that will unify all Android devices into one infrastructure. Back to this Honeycomb update, it’s supposed to make the tablet experience more enjoyable.
For example, you get an improved multitasking and app-switching mechanism, that instead of showing the most recent apps used, shows a complete history of the software running on the device. This update also enhances Honeycomb widgets, that can be resized to fit your needs. For example, if you get a lot email, you can make the Gmail widget larger in Android 3.1.
The same goes for the calendar widget, that can have its edges dragged out to make it bigger. This new version of Honeycomb allows the tablet to function as a USB host, giving the user the chance to plug in the digital camera and transfer files straight to the table for example. Mice, keyboard and gaming devices are also supported.
Google also announced during Google I/O 2011 that Honeycomb 3.1 will reach Google TV devices this summer, also including Android Market.
