iEmu Open Source iOS Emulator For Android Has Officially Been Cancelled – RIP

This image has no alt text

It was only about 2 weeks ago we told you guys about an ambitious Kickstarter project aimed at emulating iOS apps on Android. There were more than a few hurdles the iEmu team were facing to get this accomplished but after gaining 100% of their $20,000 funding, iEmu is officially dead in the water. Guess, it wasn’t as easy as it sounded. The developer of the project has yet to provide any info or reasons why the whole project was cancelled regardless — we can say this is a sad, sad day. RIP iEmu.

Thanks, Molo!

Perfect Timing: Samsung Epic 4G Touch Source Code Now Available

This image has no alt text

Well, that was a lot quicker than what we were expecting (but trust us, we aren’t complaining). The Samsung Epic 4G Touch is now out in stores and online and Samsung has made the source code available at their developer portal for all to download. With this, the hardworking Android development community will be able to get started on all the custom ROMs you could want. Root’s still not here yet (Motorola’s after-market community has that on lock) but we can’t imagine it won’t be worked on ASAP. If you yourself want the source code in the meantime, head to Samsung’s portal and do a search for D710. [Pocketnow]

Motorola DROID Bionic Bootstrap (Beta, We Think) Now Available

This image has no alt text

As promised, cvpcs has released the Bootstrap application for the Motorola DROID BIONIC that’ll get you the custom recovery you’re looking forward. Considering how recently this device came out we’re not sure it’ll be of much use to typical users right now, but developers are encouraged to download it so they can begin on their own ROMs and other such things. It’s a simple .APK file and works just like the DROID X and DROID 2′s bootstrap apps. It should be noted that this is for the DROIDN Bionic only – trying to use this on a DROID 3 will supposedly wipe your data even if the two devices are very similar. Check out the notes from cvpcs below and hit this link up for the download. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

  • This is not an official CWR release. Official CWR releases are signed off by Koush.
  • This will not be on market. I’ll leave that for when Koush makes an official release.
  • This is for BIONIC ONLY.
  • I am not responsible for any loss of data if there are bugs present. I have tested it but that doesn’t mean it’s bug free!

Google Launches New Developer Portal, Makes First Google+ API Available

This image has no alt text

All you developers out there listen up: Google’s been cooking something up for you. That something is a new developers’ portal that’ll keep you updated on the latest news, events and announcements for your coding lifestyle.

To commemorate the launch, they’ve finally released the first of many APIs to come for Google+. This one is simple – it’ll allow developers to read the public posts of a user after the user has granted that application permission to do so.

There are a few different use cases where this could be employed and Google’s left it up to you guys to make it happen.

That’s not even scratching the surface, though. This is the only API available for the time being, but Google has mentioned they will be bringing many more Google+ APIs in the near future. Get started here and here. [Source, Via]

DROID Bionic’s Imminent Custom Recovery Means Imminent ROMs Galore

This image has no alt text

The Motorola DROID BIONIC has been out and has been making its way into the hands of the development community. It didn’t take long for them to get things going, though, as the device has been rooted.

The next big step came yesterday where MyDroidWorld revealed they had a working custom recovery. Unfortunately they have not yet released the recovery but it shouldn’t be too long as the method for installation should be similar to the DROID 3. Be on the lookout here, at Androidforums.com or over at MyDroidWorld for the latest in rooting and ROMing. [Thanks yank!]

Need a ROM For Your Sensation 4G? Try These [Forum Talk]

This image has no alt text

Ah, indecision. It often happens to us ROM flashers. There are so many out there and it’s hard to find the perfect one for you. Some people may even be waiting on a ROM fro their favorite developer but have yet to see one (coughCYANOGENMODONEVO3Dcough).

Some of you Sensation users probably want to get the most of your phones after getting full root a while ago, though. AndroidForums.com member lucas.childers has put together a nice starter list of ROMs every flasher should try. He even gives descriptions for each one so you’re not running in blindly.

Don’t stop there, though – be sure to explore the All Things Root subsection and explore XDA for more. Let us know if you have any Sensation 4G ROM suggestions in the comments section below! [AndroidForums.com]

HTC EVO 3D in Europe and Canada Get Official Bootloader Unlock

This image has no alt text

While there are only two varieties of HTC phones getting official bootloader unlocks right now – including the HTC EVO 3D and the HTC Sensation – more regions have been added to the list of supported phones. Both European and Canadian HTC EVO 3Ds (the Rogers variant for Canada, specifically) have gotten official support. The process is as easy as pie and while HTC may have your device information on file in regards to your warranty being void, it’s a worry-free alternative if the community-developed method scares you. Head over to HTC’s site now to get started. [via]

Here Lies A Glimpse of Honeycomb for the HTC Flyer

This image has no alt text

Wondering how much your HTC Flyer would be transformed once the manufacturer brings Android 3.0 to your device? Developers at XDA got their hands on the RUU for the Flyer and have been hard at working hammering away at a ROM.

While everything on the functional side may not be perfect yet, we’re just happy to see it and know that it’s officially coming. HTC’s added their style touches here and there (namely in the status bar and in the settings menu), but you can clearly see Honeycomb shining through.

Keep your eyes on the Flyer section at XDA as we’re sure you owners will want it as soon as it drops. Anyone suddenly wanting one of these tablets now? [Thanks Joe!]
