CyanogenMod 7 Alpha Builds Now Available for HTC EVO 3D, Sensation

This image has no alt text

CyanogenMod 7 has been made available in the form of early alpha builds for the HTC EVO 3D and HTC Sensation While the ROMs are only in the early stages — these are the first CM7 public releases for the two handsets — word is that both are stable and functional enough to serve as your daily driver. Those who have used HTC’s unlock tool will have to backtrack a bit, as the ROM requires S-Off for installation on the EVO 3D and Sensation, something the official method does not provide. You can find the new releases over at the XDA links found below.

HTC Responds to Claims that Devices Are Spying on Users

This image has no alt text

HTC has responded to claims that software included in the most recent updates to the HTC Sensation and HTC EVO 3D are spying on users, collecting data including location and other user behaviors. In short, users shouldn’t have anything to worry about. HTC does not intend to collect information without the knowledge of the user, saying that any collected data is done so on an opt-in basis. You opt-in when your phone hits an error and you choose to send a report off to HTC. But even if you do choose to forward info to HTC, the data is encrypted and stripped of identifying factors.

So, much like other information collection scares that have popped up around smartphones, again your privacy appears to be safe. HTC promises it isn’t spying on users, and we have no reason to believe otherwise.

Refreshed HTC Sensation to Be First Beats by Dre Handset?

This image has no alt text

With HTC’s recent acquisition of Beats by Dre, it makes sense that the company would want to make a statement by getting a handset featuring the audio technology to market quickly. Most expect the HTC Vigor on Verizon to be the first handset sporting improved audio, but a new report claims that a refreshed version of the HTC Sensation may, in fact, bring the Beats/HTC combo to shelves even sooner.

Aside from fine-tuned sound and a pair of earbuds with the ability to remotely control handset functions, the new Sensation will sport a bumped up processor at 1.5GHz of dual-core power, internal storage increased to 4GB, and a larger battery. Pricing details are already available — the handset will hit the UK free on certain carrier contracts or for  £520 ($846) outright. A release date isn’t known, but all signs point to the updated HTC Sensation making its way to the UK and China very soon.

More HTC Sensation Devices Added to Official Bootloader Unlock Support List

This image has no alt text

The initial list of devices supported by HTC for an official way to unlock their bootloaders was small, but they have since been working to add more. The most recent update sees no new phone models, but we do get support for HTC Sensation units in other regions and on other carriers. We’ve got T-Mobile getting in on the fun as well as Turkish and Arabic units. We also have French carrier Boygues Telecom’s version on the list. If any of you have devices that fit the bill here and don’t want to use community-brewed methods, get on over to HTC’s site now (note: this may void your warranty). [HTCDev, Thanks Jack!]

HTC Bootloader Unlock Website Now Offering Service to European HTC Sensation

HTC promised it’d be here this month and they delivered. After launching the new HTCDev.com that included a placeholder for a future bootloader unlocking tool, they’ve gone and made the process available for the first device – the HTC Sensation   While we here at Phandroid.com can’t test it, HTC provides the process in easy-to-follow instructions. If you’ve gone anywhere near XDA then this should feel at home for you. Remember, by accepting to unlock your bootloader you may be subject to a voided warranty if it’s ever broken. With that said, get started at HTCDev.com. Sensation 4G (T-Mobile USA) and HTC EVO 3D (Sprint) users will have a little while longer to wait (though other unofficial methods do exist). [Thanks Barry!]

Revolutionary Brings S-Off and Recovery to the HTC Sensation, EVO 3D, and More

This image has no alt text

Thanks to the folks behind Unrevoked and AlphaRev the HTC Sensation and EVO 3D now have permanent S-Off and NAND write access, a feat some felt might never be accomplished due to a locked bootloader. The tool called Revolutionary will do the same for most modern HTC handsets including the Desire, Desire S, Incredible S (and Droid Incredible 2), and Flyer tablet. Support is in the works for the HTC Thunderbolt

Revolutionary is currently in developer preview, so it isn’t 100 percent ready for deployment (you may experience some bugs), but for those Sensation and EVO 3D owners tired of waiting it just might be worth it.
