GameStop Cooking Up an Android Tablet

This image has no alt text

For a while now, we here at Phandroid have been discussing the future of GameStop and its plans to jump into mobile. At one point or another we fully expected them to jump into the mobile space be it through applications or hardware of their own.

Looks like the latter will be the case as they’re rumored to be coming out with an own-branded tablet. Presumably, Android will run on it and GameStop will look to provide service comparable to that of OnLive’s.

Evidence of GameStop gearing up to offer a games on-demand service surfaced when GameStop admitted to taking coupons for OnLive’s service out of Eidos’ Deus Ex: Human Revolution. GameStop purports the opened the new games to remove the coupons because Eidos didn’t disclose that they had included those

GameStop may play it off, but it’s clear they’re targeting OnLive as a competitor as they get ready to enter this space. We’d hope for the GameStop tablet to be a dual or quad-core beast, but it’s plausible they could be introducing an affordable tablet with less-than-stellar specs.

OnLive proved you could play demanding games on weak hardware and GameStop may have found a way to employ that same technique. I haven’t been moved to buy anything GameStop branded in the gaming sector but do you guys see yourselves seriously considering whatever GameStop may be bringing to the forefront? Motorola DROID Bionic Deals

This image has no alt text

While some retailers will surely go much lower on DROID Bionic prices in the future, there are a number of great deals out there that will help make purchasing this device a little bit easier. Yes, $200 for a 4G LTE phone is a deal, unfortunately, as the top of the crop like the DROID Bionic seem to be debuting at $250 or $300 on Verizon.

A number of day one deals have been posted, however. Options include Wal-Mart for $200 (can’t find this online but should be available in store), Amazon for $180 and Wirefly for $250. If any of you happen to come across any more deals, be sure to let everyone know below! [Thanks Jay and everyone!]

[Update]: We’re hearing LetsTalk also has the Bionic for $160 when using promo code “take20back”. Anyone wanna confirm that for us? [Thanks Danny!]

Amazon Discounts LG Thrill 4G, HTC Inspire 4G to $30

This image has no alt text

The LG Thrill 4G has been available for just a little while and Amazon has already got a good deal on it waiting for you. They’re willing to part ways with the device for $30 as long as you sign a new two-year contract. Both new and existing users can get in on this for both individual accounts and new users can get the deal for family accounts.

For an existing user on a family count AT&T’s asking for $70 but that’s still quite the steal for a dual-core 3D phone. Amazon has also posted a similar deal for the very solid HTC Inspire 4G. Check them out here and here and see if you can’t walk away happy.

Purple HTC EVO 3D to be Offered Exclusively at Best Buy

This image has no alt text

After hearing word that a white HTC EVO 3D would be offered at Radio Shack, rumors say Best Buy will also be getting in on the alternate color craze. This time, they’ll be bringing a Barney the Dinosaur purple edition of the HTC EVO 3D. Not sure how many of you are going to be interested in this thing, but we always love options. No word yet on when this might come out or how much it would cost, but our eyes remain peeled.

LG Enlighten to be Sold by Walmart for Less Than a Dollar

This image has no alt text

Verizon’s LG Enlighten is an interesting phone, combining all that was successful with the LG Optimus One with a hardware keyboard. We’re sure it would have gotten a ton of looks at retail, but now that Walmart is said to be selling it for $.97 as evidenced by its appearance in this upcoming week’s product catalog, we’d say many-a new smartphone owner will get their hands on this one before considering anything else. It has a 3.2 inch display, a 3 megapixel camera and an 800MHz processor, and if LG makes this thing feel anything like the Optimus One, we can’t imagine that chipset would fail to handle Android + LG’s UI nicely. Be on the lookout for it starting Sunday, I suppose. [PhoneArena]

HTC Thunderbolt Only 1 Penny at Amazon [Deals]

This image has no alt text

After the HTC Thunderbolt debuted at $250, we saw many discounts bringing it under the $200 mark users were comfortable with. We’ve even seen it below the $100 mark at once point in time. Nothing can beat today’s deal, though – Amazon’s offering the Thunderbolt up for only a penny.

It’s no Sensation or EVO 3D, but you’re still getting a great phone by HTC with access to arguably the fastest 4G network in America. And the single-core processor inside runs Sense (2.1) just fine, thank you very much. Amazon.com if you want in on it.

White HTC EVO 3D Headed for Sprint via Radio Shack September 9th

This image has no alt text

Word in from AndroidForums.com is that RadioShack (or “The Shack” as no one likes to call them) will be offering a new HTC EVO 3D on Sprint starting September 9th. It’ll be a white version of the EVO 3D, and unlike its younger brother’s makeover, the entire phone will be white – bezel, back cover, camera outline and all. Pretty sweet, if I do say so myself. Go on and marvel at the picture, but you obviously can’t touch until September 9th rolls around. [Twitter via AndroidForums.com]

Amazon’s got a nice back to school promotion for carriers of their Amazon.com Visa credit card. Using the coupon code BTS20OFF, you can get 20% off of any PC and home/office supplies. Fortunately for us, they’re including tablets into that category. The most you can shave off is $200.

It’s a nice chunk of change off of, say, a 16GB ASUS Eee Pad Transformer which is $392 right now but can be yours for $315 with this promotion. If you’ve got their Visa card and are in the market, you owe it to yourself to take advantage. It all ends August 31st and the code can only be used once per account. [Amazon.com, Thanks Matthew!]

AT&T LG Thrill 4G Delayed Again According To Leaked Screenshot

This image has no alt text

About 3 weeks ago we told you about AT&T delaying the LG Thrill 4G until August 21st according to a leaked RadioShack screenshot. Although an official launch date was ever announced, it seems as if the LG Thrill will be receiving another unofficial delay, this time finding itself pushed back until Sept. 4th.

Once again this information comes to us via a leaked screenshot from The Shack and while we’re not entirely sure why the device continues to get placed on the back burner, technically it’s still on schedule for LG’s vague “summer release” date. Anyone disappointed by this news?

MEGA DEAL ALERT: RadioShack Giving Away All T-Mobile Phones For FREE Starting Today

This image has no alt text

RadioShack announced via their Facebook that they will be giving away all their T-Mobile phones for free starting today. Wait- before you run out to your local Shack, keep in mind this promotion is good for new activations and thanks to @DrHoochIsCrazy, we learned up to 1 extra line (no upgrades). RadioShack’s deal with T-Mobile will officially come to an end Sept. 14th so it looks like The Shack may be making room for newcomer Verizon Wireless on their store shelves.

No word on how long this sale will be available but if you’re currently with another carrier and were thinking about making the jump to T-Mobile, now might be as good a time as any.
