4G LTE Samsung Celox Spotted in the Wild Sans Hardware Button

When the Samsung Celox surfaced last week as a rumored 4G LTE variant of the Galaxy S II for Korea, we couldn’t help but get visions of the handset on Verizon. The main issue keeping us second guess a US release of the phone with a rumored 4.5-inch Super AMOLED HD display and 1.5GHz dual-core processor was the presence of the single hardware button found on international versions of Galaxy S devices. That hardware button was absent from the Galaxy lineup released  in the US last year, and early leaks indicate the same will be true for Galaxy S II devices. So, could we still expect a Verizon release of the device codenamed Celox? New in-the-wild images of the handset are suggesting it remains a possibility.

The Celox has been captured in a set of pictures and clearly lacks the hardware buttons first seen in the leak from last week. While the carrier branding doesn’t give us any firm indication of a release outside of Korea, the one little hardware details leaves the door open. We’ll know soon enough.

Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S II LTE (Celox) to Have Super AMOLED HD Display

Following the news that Samsung would be bringing an LTE-enabled 4.5 inch Samsung Galaxy S II codenamed Celox, Korean outlet ET News has heard from “industry insiders” that the device will have a Super AMOLED HD display instead of the Super AMOLED Plus.

The differences between the two are resolution – the HD is 1280×800 with 300ppi while Plus is 480×800 with 216ppi. It’s also believed the Super AMOLED HD display will use pentile matrix instead of the RGB we’ve all come to know and love.

The shots we saw earlier of this supposed device suggest it’ll have hardware buttons, but to have a Super AMOLED HD display on this bad boy means we could be looking at a launch with Ice Cream Sandwich. That’s just speculation for the time being, though. For now, we’re just happy that Samsung has decided to stop stretching a WVGA resolution onto 4-inch-plus displays. [Thanks Eric! LTE Samsung Galaxy S II Surfaces, Codenamed Celox

News has spread out of Korea that a 4G LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy S II is indeed in the pipeline with word of a September release attached. The handset codenamed Celox bears all the markings of the Galaxy S II plus a few key differences, most notably aside from the 4G LTE radio is the 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. The display size and leaked image are reminiscent of the recently spied Samsung Hercules though that phone designed for T-Mobile’s GSM network will most definitely lack 4G LTE support. Could we instead be looking at the phone destined for Verizon or even AT&T? Or perhaps some international 4G LTE market? Will the reported 1750mAh battery provide enough juice to power the large screen, dual-core processor, and next-gen cellular radio?
