T-Mobile Galaxy S II Shows Up On Official Samsung Site

This image has no alt text

Samsung has finally added the T-Mobile Galaxy S II (SGH-T989) to their smartphone listings on their official site today. If you were hoping to get some more “official” insight on the device — like the official name, which processor it will be using or if it will be compatible with HSPA+ 42Mbs — once again, those finer details were left out. What you do get to see some shiny new pics of the device from the front and side but unfortunately, still no back shots (my personal favorite). Check ‘em out!

Sprint and T-Mobile Plan for a Mysterious “All Hands Day” In September

This image has no alt text

Seems there are a few rumors floating around the blogosphere of a leaked document showing T-Mobile prepping their employees for a mysterious September 24th “All Hands Day.” As to be expected, imaginations are running wild. This could either be some last minute training for the Samsung Galaxy S II (Hercules) or may have something to do with the rumored release of the iPhone 5 on T-Mo. Nobody is quite sure.

Adding even more speculation to the iPhone 5 rumor is a similar “All Hands Day” Sprint is requiring for their team. According to numerous SprintFeed tipsters, this one is scheduled for September 11th, just a few days earlier than T-Mobile’s AHD. Luckily, SprintFeed received this leaked image displaying the time frame in which employees need to train for the launch of Sprint’s upcoming Epic 4G Touch which seems to encompass that tipped September 11th date and goes up all the until the phone’s launch on the 16th.

Gee, Scoob. It seems we’ve solved the mystery of the T-Mobile and Sprint “All Hands Day.” If both these training events are in fact related, then they are nothing more than training for the Samsung Galaxy S II. Even still, I still find it odd that Sprint or T-Mobile would need to train their employees on devices featuring similar OS’s to what’s currently on the market. Go figure.

Aftermath: Which Galaxy S II Device Looks The Best? [Poll]

This image has no alt text

With today’s announcement from Samsung on the availability of the Galaxy S II in the US, you may have noticed Samsung’s (or the carrier’s) choice to design each device differently. With that, came some strong opinions from our readers on the version they felt was most aesthetically pleasing. We’ve all seen the handful of press shots making the rounds and hopefully you’ve watched our hands-on time with each device before making your final judgement.

Personally, I feel like the the AT&T version agrees with me more seeing how it’s almost a carbon copy of the international version sans the “iPhone-ish” home button. But now it’s time for you guys to make your voices heard in our reader poll. Carrier affiliations aside, which version of the Galaxy S II do you feel like “looks the best.”

Our one and only Rob Jackson is on location in New York for Samsung’s big U.S. unveiling for the Galaxy S II. Rob was able to get some quick hands-on time with each of the devices, showing off some of the new features and Samsung’s all new TouchWiz UI. I’m sure you’ve already noticed from the press shots but these are not cookie cutter versions of each other. Each device has their own subtle aesthetic differences so let’s jump right in and take a look!

Samsung Hercules (T989) and AT&T Variant (I927) Make Their Way Past The FCC

This image has no alt text

The Samsung Hercules (T989), T-Mobile’s variant of their Galaxy S II device, was discovered making it’s way through the FCC today. What’s of particular interest is the fact that the device will be equipped with NFC (Near Field Communications) as seen in the filing above. Not to be outdone by T-Mobile, AT&T’s own version of the Galaxy S II (I927) also made a surprise appearance in a filing of its own (pictured below). Strange seeing how I could have sworn the I927 already had an FCC filing in August.

Both devices have been rumored to launch soon on their respective carriers and unveiled in a Galaxy S II event being held on August 29th in New York. Today’s FCC filings just bring us one more step to both the device’s inevitable release and Galaxy S II world domination.

Thanks, Jamil!

Telus Samsung Hercules Gets Pictured Along With Impressive Benchmark Results

This image has no alt text

The guys over at Mobile Syrup managed to snap this pic of the Samsung Hercules in the wild and running on the Telus network in Canada. This gives us yet another clear picture of what this device’s form factor in what could be seen as a cross between the Infuse 4, Nexus S and Galaxy S II. Also pictured were some not too shabby benchmarks but even more impressive was the unbelievable clarity of the SAMOLED Plus display in this close up shot with no Pentile Matrix in sight. It truly brings a tear to my eye…

While we don’t know too much as far as the processor goes (just look at that Quadrant!), what we do know is this device will sport a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 8MP rear camera with 2MP front facing, 1GB of RAM and support for Telus’s 42Mbps HSPA+ network. The leaked T-Mobile roadmap showed this could be hitting us here in the states as early as Oct 26th. What do you guys think of this device so far? Would you rather have the original GS2′s form factor or is the additional .2-inches more your size?

Samsung Hercules and HTC Ruby Launch Dates Revealed

This image has no alt text

The Samsung Hercules and HTC Ruby could be some of the most anticipated handsets to release this year and we may finally have the launch date for these devices. According to this leaked internal document TMoNews was able to get their hands on, The Hercules and Ruby will both see a simultaneous launch on October 26th. This may be a little longer than some of you were hoping on waiting before you got your hands on T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II variant or HTC’s comparable model in the Ruby. But hey, at least now you have a date to mark on your calendars.

Samsung Hercules for T-Mobile is Indeed a Galaxy S II Phone

This image has no alt text

If you still had any doubt that the Samsung Hercules would be T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II (or one of several possible variants for it), our friends at TmoNews have procured evidence that further strengthens the rumor. We don’t see much in the shots here, but the back shows T-Mobile’s logo, the Galaxy S II branding and that curved bottom that exists on every Galaxy S II device, while the front shows the set of four capacitive buttons instead of the usual Galaxy S/S II configuration.

T-Mobile’s variant also has more rounded corners than the original Galaxy S II. We still don’t know much about T-Mobile’s version of the Galaxy S II, or any carrier’s for that matter, but it’s possible their version could come with Tegra 2 instead of Samsung’s Exynos processor. This one will also have a 4.5-inch display compared to the original’s 4.3 inches. In any case, all of these leaks mean we’re getting ever closer to a US launch and that’s about all we can ask for at this point. [TmoNews, PocketNow]

Samsung Hercules for TELUS Spotted?

This image has no alt text

We’ve heard the name “Samsung Hercules” thrown around quite a bit now. It was originally believed to be T-Mobile’s variant of the Galaxy S II here in the states. Their version differed a bit from the rest of the pack, supposedly offering a 4.5-inch slate compared to the 4.3 inches seen on everyone else’s version. Inside is said to be a 1.2GHz processor which might indicate that Exynos will be sitting inside. MobileSyrup describes it as looking like ” a cross between the Samsung Galaxy SII, Nexus S and the Galaxy S Infuse.” Doesn’t look bad really, though what appears to be WVGA resolution on a screen this large does disappoint us.
