Bit of a slow news hump here so I decided to take AndroidForums.com for a spin. What better place to poke around than the section of one of the most anticipated phones for all Android enthusiasts? We jumped into some threads over at the Galaxy Nexus section and found the following threads interesting enough to spend a minute or 10 inside. Have at it!

Rumor: Motorola Unveiling XOOM 2 in London Tomorrow

This image has no alt text

Take this one with the smallest grain of salt you can find. According to a site named OneMobileRing, Motorola has issued invites to press for an event at their UK offices tomorrow, November 3rd, to unveil a new product. A new phone? Perhaps.

We already know the UK is getting the RAZR so that’s a bit out of the question. They suggest it could be for the Motorola XOOM 2, a device that we’ve been seeing and hearing a bit of lately.

If true, the location would make sense considering UK retailer Carphone Warehouse is preparing an ad for a soon-to-come circular for the device where it’s apparently “everything a tablet should be.”

It will supposedly be here in time for Christmas and considering we’re currently in the biggest shopping month of the year, I’d say there’s strong reason to believe that we definitely will see an announcement shortly. We’ll be sure to keep you all posted on any further developments. [Thanks Mike!]

LG: Rumors of LG Optimus 2X Not Receiving Ice Cream Sandwich Are Not True

This image has no alt text

LG today took to Facebook to inform everyone that some of the rumors they’ve bee hearing were false. The rumor was that the Optimus 2X – one of the first Tegra 2 phones and dual-core phones period – would not be getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

According to them, that’s not true. They have reassured everyone that they are certainly planning on bringing Ice Cream Sandwich to not only the Optimus 2X, but to 0ther high-end phones of theirs.

Like other OEMs, LG can’t confirm a rollout window until Google drops the public source. Once they do get the source, however, we hope it won’t be too long before their plans come to fruition. In other words, if you have a dual-core phones (and maybe even a couple of single core phonnes) by LG, chill out – you likely have nothing to worry about. [Facebook, thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

LG DoublePlay Should Be Available in T-Mobile Stores Today`

If you were waiting to see an in-store demo of this phone yourself, the LG DoublePlay is expected to land in T-Mobile’s magenta-laced stores today. It’s a dual display device which sees its secondary display sitting between keys on the slideout QWERTY keyboard.

The display is advertised to be used for keeping in touch with your social life while being able to do other things on the main display. We also imagine you will be able to launch applications from the display. If you prefer to get it online, it has been available for $100 at T-Mobile.com.

Dell Streak 5 Becomes US Defense Gear, First Android Device With Such Certification

Dell Streak 5 may become US Army material, since it has just received US Defense certification. This 5 inch Android slate has been worked on by the Department of Defense ever since last year. The high ranking state officials want to turn this gizmo into mandatory equipment for civilian and military personal connected to the government.

Dell has tweaked the security of the tablet, adapted its features to meet the Defense Information Systems Agency specs and brought in support for secure but unclassified communications. The Streak 5 is able to transmit unclassified messages and it allows users to remotely wipe data in case of theft or loss. The device can be remotely wiped, locked after invalid passwords are used and remote controlled in various security levels.

Till now BlackBerries were the favorite of the “men in black”, but the trend seems to be switching to Android, that’s the leading smartphone OS after all… right? What’s next? A Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 used to guide missiles?

Motorola XOOM 2 Tablet Pamphlet Leaks Pricing and Image

Motorola XOOM 2 has been a lot in the press lately, including in a bunch of images and with presumed specs available. Now we also get a pamphlet showing the device, that Engadget dug up from its sources. It appears the product will be sold for 399.99 euro by Carphone Warehouse in Ireland.

Taking note of the presents pictured here and the Christmas mention, we’re talking about an Xmas offer, so we might see the product launched around the winter holiday time. Xoom 2 is supposed to come with a 10.1 inch display, a dual core 1.2GHz processor, a camera with 1080p recording ability and 1GB of RAM.

The device is 9mm thick, just a bit beefier than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, at 8.6mm. Motorola hasn’t yet announced the Xoom 2 and in case you’re wondering about the OS, I wouldn’t be surprised if this were Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich material. Considering Motorola Mobility was purchased by Google this is one of the perks of the acquisition: getting Android 4.0 on new products first.

7 Inch ASUS Transformer Ready to Go Loose?

We know that this month’s highlight is the quad core ASUS Transformer Prime tablet, but it appears that there’s yet another interesting slate from ASUS brewing up. I’m talking about a potential 7 inch version of the ASUS Transformer, that could come soon.

Considering the success of the first model and the fact that everyone is jumping on the 7 inch tablet bandwagon, a 7 inch slate with keyboard dock would become a hit quite fast. ASUS is expected to release a couple of tablets in early 2012 and the 7 incher could be among them, together with the ASUS PadFone and an upgraded Slider.

The problem with this product is that the 7 inch display also means a smaller keyboard and frankly I don’t how a 7 inch netbook could be of any help, even if you’re into portable computing. Maybe if they market it towards youngsters and ladies…
