Acer Iconia Tab A500 Gets Interesting Video, No Apple Mockery Here (Video)

Well, here’s something unusual: a company promoting a tablet without mocking the iPad. We’ve seen Samsung doing it, Motorola doing it, LG and also Toshiba mocking the iPad for the lack of Flash. Acer minds its own business and simply focuses on the user experience in its latest promo video for the Iconia Tab A500 slate.

This is a 10.1 inch Honeycomb tablet, priced at a very reasonable $450, in the 16GB version. This model comes with a dual core Tegra 2 processor @ 1GHz and supports 1280 x 800 pixels in resolution. Iconia even supports DLNA and comes with very nice accessories compatible, such as video docks, keyboards and cases.

The product weighs 1.69 lbs and we found the source of its lack of Apple mockery: the tablet didn’t support Flash out of the box, when it was shipped in April. You can find this product at Best Buy, but look sharp and you may get a price tag lower than $450.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Receives Android 3.1 Update in Germany, US not Yet…

Acer Iconia Tab A500, one of the most loved low price Android 3.1 tablets has just received the Android 3.1 update in Germany at least. It seems that the United States will still have to wait for it a while…

We remind you that the first unit to get the 3.1 update was the “Nexus” tablet, Motorola Xoom, that got it immediately when the new software was out. However, this only happened in the States, taking months for Honeycomb 3.1 to reach Europe on Xoom. Now the story is reversed, with Europe having the priority for Acer Iconia Tab A500 and the US waiting.

The 10 inch Iconia Tab A500 shipped with Android 3.0  initially, and some of you might have used the unofficial Honeycomb 3.1 update already. Acer Germany officials entered Facebook to tell their countrymen about the update, so it’s certainly an official one.

Android 3.1 Update for Acer Iconia Tab A500 Leaked in China, Available for Download

There’s a very useful leak out there, the one of the Android 3.1 software, available for the Acer Iconia Tab A500 model. This Honeycomb 3.1 build can be found in the source link below and it seems that it was leaked in China and it can be downloaded worldwide.

If you don’t want to flash your tablet, there’s always the official over the air update, coming to the A500 units in Europe on July 5th. Meanwhile, we remind you that recently Acer reduced its predictions for tablet sales in the following time frame, because of the tough competition it’s facing. And with the Iconia Tab A500 being one of the cheapest slates out there, it’s hard to imagine any competition for it.

Well, we can think of one: ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, also with a good price and … of course, the iPad 2.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Upgraded to Android 3.1 on July 5th (in Germany)

Slowly, but surely most Honeycomb tablets out there are heading towards the Android 3.1 update. Yesterday we informed you that Motorola Xoom, in its European version received such an update, that’s rolling out this week and now Acer Iconia Tab A500 follows.

The German Facebook page of Acer announced that locally the Android 3.1 update will be available on July 5th. That surpasses the June timeframe that we were promised, but it’s close enough in order not to upset anyone. Since Acer Germany made this announcement, we also expect other local branches to perform a similar move.

We remind you that the first model to get the Honeycomb 3.1 upgrade was the US Motorola Xoom and recently we’ve heard that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Limited Edition also got this software enhancement.

Serious iPad Challenger! Priced at $450, the Acer Iconia Tab A500 Means Business

After seeing the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer looking like a very reasonable iPad rival, especially thanks to its price, another newcomer attacks the Apple dominance. This time we’re talking about the Acer Iconia Tab A500, pictured below.

This device costs a mere $449.99 in the WiFi version and it’s very solid alternative to the iPad 2. The unit runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb and it went on sale on April 24, with a new model supporting AT&T 4G meant for later release this summer. Right now, if you’re looking for a tablet, you’ll find the original iPad priced at $399, the WiFi Xoom at $599 and the G-Slate at $750 without contract.

There’s always the BlackBerry PlayBook, for $499, but that device requires a BlackBerry phone for email and contacts. Iconia Tab is a breath of fresh air, with its Tegra 2 dual core CPU, 16GB of storage, 10.1 inch display, dual cameras and appealing design. The battery life is also pretty good, at 8 hours, when you do gaming and video.

Will you accept Acer’s tempting offer?

Acer Gateway Android Tablet Surfaces, Rebranded Iconia A500?

Gateway is an US subsidiary of Acer, that is now supposed to launch an Android tablet, just like the mother company. This product has two model numbers, TP-A60W and PT-A60G, as the official Bluetooth website mentions.

Don’t think that this is a new device, since it’s not, as the tablet is actually a rebranded Acer Iconia Tab A500. Even the descriptions of the units are the same and they mention the fact that the slate is lighter and smaller than a magazine. Thus, we expect it to feature a 10.1 inch display, Android 3.0 Honeycomb and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n.

A dual core Tegra 2 CPU and 2MP front camera round up the specs list and now we’ll wait and see what happens to these Gateway versions.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Rooted by XDA Developers

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is one of the cheapest Honeycomb tablets out there, priced at $450 and launched not so long ago. Now, it turns out that this dual core slate was rooted by the XDA Developers folks, so we expect custom ROMs and hacks to descend upon us soon, just like they did for Motorola Xoom.

In the meantime, we remind you that for $150 less than the Xoom you can get the Iconia Tab A500, with a 10.1 inch touch display, a 1GHz CPU, WIFi, GPS, HDMI out, 1GB RAM and 16GB of storage. The device comes with a brushed aluminum finish and gray plastics, for a more attractive build and look. What tablet will be rooted next?

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Priced at $450 on Best Buy

Acer Iconia Tab A500 has just become one of the cheapest Honeycomb tablets out there, by being priced at $450 on Best Buy. This 10.1 inch slate mustn’t be confused with the Iconia Tab A501 coming to AT&T, in case you had your doubts. We’re talking dual core here and 16GB of storage, so the price is very appealing.

Iconia Tab A500 also packs a 2MP front camera for video calls and a 5MP cam at the back. Up to 8 hours of battery life will be available when using this slate, that also supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and comes with a microSD card slot. Best Buy promised to ship the product in 1 business day, so we should see stocks depleted soon, if the product is a success.

Acer Iconia A500 Honeycomb Tablet Available for Pre-Order on Best Buy; Priced at $450

Just like it happened with the Froyo slates, now we’re being flooded by Honeycomb tablets, with the latest new arrival being the Acer Iconia Tab A500. The product is available right now on Best Buy for pre-order, priced at $450, which is very reasonable for any pocket out there.

The device will reach Best Buy stores on April 24th and you should expect a 10.1 inch display with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, a Tegra 2 dual core CPU and a 5 megapixel camera at the back. At the front there’s a 2MP cam, while the specs list of this Honeycomb newcomer also includes a HDMI port, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of memory.

This can be considered one of the most affordable Android 3.0 tablets available right now, unlike the Xoom and G-Slate, that may have high end specs, but the prices are too big. There’s always the iPad 2, with its huge shipping time and stock problems… Expect a 4G version of the Acer Iconia A500 to debut in the following months.
