Acer Iconia Tab A500 Gets Interesting Video, No Apple Mockery Here (Video)

Well, here’s something unusual: a company promoting a tablet without mocking the iPad. We’ve seen Samsung doing it, Motorola doing it, LG and also Toshiba mocking the iPad for the lack of Flash. Acer minds its own business and simply focuses on the user experience in its latest promo video for the Iconia Tab A500 slate.

This is a 10.1 inch Honeycomb tablet, priced at a very reasonable $450, in the 16GB version. This model comes with a dual core Tegra 2 processor @ 1GHz and supports 1280 x 800 pixels in resolution. Iconia even supports DLNA and comes with very nice accessories compatible, such as video docks, keyboards and cases.

The product weighs 1.69 lbs and we found the source of its lack of Apple mockery: the tablet didn’t support Flash out of the box, when it was shipped in April. You can find this product at Best Buy, but look sharp and you may get a price tag lower than $450.

Serious iPad Challenger! Priced at $450, the Acer Iconia Tab A500 Means Business

After seeing the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer looking like a very reasonable iPad rival, especially thanks to its price, another newcomer attacks the Apple dominance. This time we’re talking about the Acer Iconia Tab A500, pictured below.

This device costs a mere $449.99 in the WiFi version and it’s very solid alternative to the iPad 2. The unit runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb and it went on sale on April 24, with a new model supporting AT&T 4G meant for later release this summer. Right now, if you’re looking for a tablet, you’ll find the original iPad priced at $399, the WiFi Xoom at $599 and the G-Slate at $750 without contract.

There’s always the BlackBerry PlayBook, for $499, but that device requires a BlackBerry phone for email and contacts. Iconia Tab is a breath of fresh air, with its Tegra 2 dual core CPU, 16GB of storage, 10.1 inch display, dual cameras and appealing design. The battery life is also pretty good, at 8 hours, when you do gaming and video.

Will you accept Acer’s tempting offer?

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Rooted by XDA Developers

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is one of the cheapest Honeycomb tablets out there, priced at $450 and launched not so long ago. Now, it turns out that this dual core slate was rooted by the XDA Developers folks, so we expect custom ROMs and hacks to descend upon us soon, just like they did for Motorola Xoom.

In the meantime, we remind you that for $150 less than the Xoom you can get the Iconia Tab A500, with a 10.1 inch touch display, a 1GHz CPU, WIFi, GPS, HDMI out, 1GB RAM and 16GB of storage. The device comes with a brushed aluminum finish and gray plastics, for a more attractive build and look. What tablet will be rooted next?

Acer Iconia Tab A500 has just become one of the cheapest Honeycomb tablets out there, by being priced at $450 on Best Buy. This 10.1 inch slate mustn’t be confused with the Iconia Tab A501 coming to AT&T, in case you had your doubts. We’re talking dual core here and 16GB of storage, so the price is very appealing.

Iconia Tab A500 also packs a 2MP front camera for video calls and a 5MP cam at the back. Up to 8 hours of battery life will be available when using this slate, that also supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and comes with a microSD card slot. Best Buy promised to ship the product in 1 business day, so we should see stocks depleted soon, if the product is a success.

Acer Iconia Tab W500, A500 Tablets Now With Pricing and Launch Dates

Acer has finally offered details regarding the Iconia Tab W500 and A500 slates, that come with your choice of Windows 7 and Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Acer Iconia Tab W500 will debut in the UK and Europe on April 8 2011, with a $726 price tag, while the bundle that includes the optional keyboard will go for $855.

If you buy the keyboard alone, you’ll have to pay $144 for an accessory that includes an Ethernet port, two USB 2.0 ports and a trackpoint stick. Sadly, there’s no integrated battery on this device. The 3G version of the Iconia Tab W500 will be priced at $855, with the keyboard bundle going for $936.

The 3G version will also come with a contract, that should make it cheaper. As far as the Acer Iconia Tab A500 is concerned, this Honeycomb unit will be priced at $726 as well, but this 10 inch model won’t come with a keyboard dock. It will rely on a Bluetooth keyboard instead. There’s also a 7 inch version of the Iconia Tab coming, the A100, that will debut in May, for an unknown price.
