Samsung Nexus Prime (GT-I9250) Passes Through FCC With AT&T/World AND T-Mobile Bands?

This image has no alt text

As if things couldn’t get anymore confusing surrounding the impending Nexus Prime launch, the Samsung GT-I9250 has just passed through the FCC today adding a little more fuel to the “pair of Primes” debate. As you can see from the above picture, this GSM version — I9250 — is supporting AT&T/world bands and possibly T-Mobile’s as well. The filing listed T-Mobile’s 1700MHz frequency but oddly left out the 2100MHz part. 1 out of 2 ain’t bad, so that means there’s still hope!

So why is this new info so confusing? Well, according to BGR, there will only be ONE Nexus device from Samsung dubbed the “Droid Prime” (SCH-I515) and that device is rumored to be a Verizon exclusive. Couple that information with talk of 2 different sites posting “exclusives” on 2 different spec sheets and — well, we’re just all mixed up at this point.

There very well could be a Droid branded-Ice Cream Sandwich-Samsung device exclusively for Verizon, followed up by a worldwide release of a GSM version (Galaxy Nexus). Let’s hope all is revealed at some point during CTIA next week. I need a Tylenol.

Android’s New Look: Ice Cream Sandwich – Love It Or Hate It? [Poll]

This image has no alt text

I’m gonna keep this real simple for you guys. We’ve all seen the leaked video of the Nexus S running Ice Cream Sandwich. Many said it was a fake — turns out those guys were wrong (yeah, I’m calling you out). Today, we saw a newer build of Ice Cream Sandwich this time running on a bonafide Nexus Prime (Galaxy Nexus, Droid Prime, Rodimus Prime) in a much clearer but still kinda fuzzy video. Reading through the comments I found a lot of people either loved the new look of Android or absolutely hated it. Since I’m a man of the people, I wanted to throw up a quick poll and get some solid statistics — Ice Cream Sandwich: Love it or hate it? Indifferent? That means you like turtles! Go!

Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Nexus Prime) Specs Get Detailed [UPDATED]

This image has no alt text

While some confusion still exists around what the final product name will be, new details emerging from the BGR camp are clearing up the specifics on the Nexus Prime (or Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Droid Prime, Droid Nexus). Claiming a trusted source, a new report gives us an almost complete look at the spec sheet Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich flagship. Here’s the dirt on the next Nexus:

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 9mm thin
  • 4.65-inch 1280 x 720-pixel Super AMOLED HD with curved glass
  • TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 32GB of built-in storage
  • 5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel in the front
  • 1080p HD video capture support
  • LTE/HSPA depending on carrier
  • Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
  • NFC
  • 1,750 mAh battery
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus name is strongly attached to this rumor, and while a slight departure from the nomenclature established with previous releases, tying the device more strongly to the Galaxy S brand could have positive benefits. The phone is said to be a pure Google Experience device (as expected) and is once again confirmed to be a Verizon exclusive in the US.
[Update] We are hearing conflicting reports in response to BGR‘s latest scoop. AndroidForums member HanSolo points to a Google+ posting by one Lee Johnston that takes issue with the supposedly final spec sheet listed above. According to this Johnston character (whose trustworthiness has not been established), the Galaxy Nexus/Nexus Prime will read more like the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE. This includes a larger 1850mAh battery, 8MP rear camera, and leaves open the possibility for a 1.5GHz dual-core chipset. While it should be noted that these claims lack any credibility on their own, they have seemingly been substantiated by AndroidForums member black_man_x, a reliable source who has reportedly been using the Nexus Prime for the past few weeks.
In other words, take all of this speculation with a grain of salt. The truth will be revealed next week at Samsung’s CTIA event. If you want to dive deeper down the rabbit hole, however, head on over to the discussion thread to catch up on the latest buzz and add your own two cents.

Verizon Offering Early Upgrades To Customers – Just In Time For Big Fall Releases

This image has no alt text

If you’ve been keeping up with the rumor mill as of late, you would know that Verizon is preparing for a huge onslaught of premium 4G LTE equipped Android handsets later this year. Devices like the “Droid Prime, ” HTC Vigor and of course, the Droid Bionic. If you were feeling down and out having used your upgrade last year well, I have some good news for you. It seems some lucky customers are receiving emails from Big Red notifying them that they have an upgrade available a full 12 months ahead of schedule. That means if you weren’t expecting an upgrade for another year, well — you may want to check your email. Like NOW.

This news has popped up on just about every Android/tech/news blog and no one can seem to find a rhyme or reason for the lucky individuals chosen for the early upgrade program. I spoke with a close friend who works with Verizon and he was told that Verizon may be trying to reward some of their more “preferred customers” by getting them onto a 4G LTE device. 4G promotion? Sounds fair enough. I still feel like this could have something to do with the upcoming release of the iPhone 5 and Verizon trying to guarantee a successful launch but that’s pure speculation.

Anyway you slice it, this is an awesome move by Verizon and I don’t know of a better way to reward loyal customers (and lock them down) than by giving them an early upgrade. Bravo, Verizon. Hopefully the other 3 are taking notice. Any of our readers get their upgrade 12 months ahead of schedule?

Samsung Nexus Prime/GTI9250 Support Page Found On Samsung Site

This image has no alt text

A support page for the Samsung GT-I9250 was discovered today on Samsung’s site. Just in case you’re getting mixed up with all these model numbers the GT-I9250 was originally rumored to be Samsung’s Nexus Prime device after a leaked roadmap showed the device with a 720p HD screen and running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. All that kinda went to hades once BGR leaked their “insider info” on a potential Droid Prime release this year with the model number SCH-I515 and heading to Verizon. While that through everyone for a loop more than likely we’re looking at Samsung Droid device that will launch with Ice Cream Sandwich (SCH-I515) AND a Nexus Prime device for the rest of us (GT-I9250). Of course, all of that is pure speculation on my end.

Samsung DROID Prime Passes Through Bluetooth SIG – Headed to Verizon?

This image has no alt text

The device now rumored to be the Droid Prime, the Samsung SCH-i515, has just passed through Bluetooth SIG certification potentially on its way to Verizon as evidence by the CDMA and North America references in the pic above. Originally, it was rumored that the Samsung i9250 was to be the Nexus Prime thanks to a leaked Samsung roadmap but in a recent turn of events, everything flipped on us with BGR’s tipster indicating the Samsung SCH-i515 as the new “chosen one.” Regardless, certifications are always a good indicator of what’s coming around the bend so if there’s one thing we know for sure — Prime is coming.
