Windows 8 Tablet Concept On Display, Courtesy of Microsoft

It was a big day yesterday for Microsoft fans, who got to see an interesting Windows 8 tablet concept, that’s also pictured below. The next-gen device was shown during a Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference presentation.

This mystery slate show an UI similar to the one of WP7, a detail that has been stated a number of times till now. Windows Phone boss Andy Less recently claimed that tablets will never get WP7, although we’ve seen some ports recently. The purpose of Win 8 and the tablet that it will run on is doing everything a PC can do.

However, Microsoft built Win 8 not only for tablets, but also for desktops, so everyone will be pleased. With recent rumors of Xbox 360 games support in the next Windows, things can’t get any better than this. Now, I’m curious what company will take on the production of the mystery tablet. Maybe HP… what about Dell or maybe a surprise like ASUS, Acer or HTC?

Dell Peju 10 Inch Win 7 Tablet Leaks, Complete With Intel Core i5 CPU (Video)

The leak of the day is Dell material, although not an Android tablet like we’d have liked, but rather a Win 7 model with Core i5 processor. This new model can be seen in the video and images below, courtesy of a mystery source with the name Peju included. Is Dell Peju the final name of the device, or just a codename?

There’s also a nifty docking station in the mix, as shown in the photos and you have to know that this new slate weighs 1.9 lbs and measures 0.63 inches in thickness. What’s really interesting is that this model is listed as Windows 8 compatible, when this OS hasn’t even been given a proper launch date.

Here’s the specs list for Dell Peju:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5 CPU
  • Memory: 4GB RAM, 64GB SSD or 120 GB SSD, microSD
  • Display: 10.1 inch, wide angle, 1920 x 1080
  • Connectivity: USB, mini VGA, HDMI, audio, SIM (3G)
  • Battery: 5,500 mAh, 6-8 hours of usage

Cregle PenBook Windows 7 Tablet Provides 6 Hours of Battery Life, Uses Intel Atom Z530 CPU

There are very few tablet models without Android and iOS that matter out there, but does the Cregle PenBook have what it takes to be one of them? We’re pretty close to the unveiling of the first Win 8 slates and still there are Win 7 new models coming every day…

This unit uses an Intel Atom Z530 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM (only ships with 1GB) and an interesting touch bar that allows you to control various functions, such as brightness and page up/down. As far as storage goes, you get your choice between 16GB and 32GB of SSD memory. The display is a 10.1 inch unit with a 1,024 x 600 pixel resolution.

Too bad that the stylus bundled with this slate is not stylish…. Well, at least the battery life is good, at about 6 hours and the main advantage is that the power source is replaceable.

Windows 8 Interface Reaches Android Tablet (Video)

This is a customizer’s wet dream: having the beautiful Windows Phone 7 tiles on the user-friendly Honeycomb. This port was recently done on the Android tablet shown in the video below.

The guys of WP7Android are behind this great initiative and it appears that they also built a Windows 8 Live Tile lookalike with Desktop Visualiser and ADW EX. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Honeycomb 3.1 is the device of choice and those tiles are moving pretty fluidly. Now, all they have to do is get rid of the Android clock and bottom left navigation icons and it’s all Metro UI.

Looking forward to seeing this on a smaller tablet, maybe a7 incher like HTC Flyer?

HP Thinking About Windows 8 Slates After TouchPad Failure

HP’s TouchPad slate took off in the States yesterday and already bad reviews are pouring in. Thus, it’s no wonder that the PC maker intends to switch to Windows 8 tablets in the future, also making use of its good relationship with Microsoft.

HP purchased Palm last year for $1.2 billion, but this deal has yet to pay off, although webOS is an excellent platform. In a recent interview with Fast Company, HP’s president and CTO Phil McKinney talked about future Windows 8 tablets.  McKinney said that he can’t reveal more info, but we expect something good to be cooking.

Considering that HP was already a big partner for the delivery of Windows 7 on various devices, it’s only logical that the next OS will get the same love, with the low adoption rate of webOS. It will be strange for the average customer to see HP offering both Windows 8 and webOS tablets, but we’ll just have to wait and see how they figure this one out.

Ekoore Debuts 3 New Tablets: One With Each Famous OS: Windows, Linux, Android (Perl, Python, Pascal)

Ekoore is a name I admit I haven’t heard till today, but let met tell you what this is about. It’s an Italian company, that introduced an Ubuntu slate last year. Now they’re back with 3 new slates: Perl, Python and Pascal. Two of these are made to run Ubuntu or Win 7, while the third is a budget Android model.

Ekoore Perl packs a 11.6 inch display with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, HDMI output and stereo speakers. Its case is 0.55 inches thick and the model can run Linux or Windows 7, while its CPU is a total mystery. Ekoore Python is comparable to a netbook with the keyboard stripped from it and with a touchscreen as an extra.

Python comes with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 CPU, GMA3150 graphics, SSD storage, a mini HDMI port and WiFi/3G. This model provides about 4 hours of battery life. As far as the Ekoore Pascal model is concerned, this one comes with a 7 inch multitouch display, a 1.2GHz dual core CPU and Gingerbread.  4 gigs of storage and 512MB of RAM should be enough for you.
