Microsoft’s got the big BUILD event this week, that will allow us to catch a glimpse of Windows 8 running on a tablet. Rumors say that will be an ARM slate, but it’s very likely it will be Intel material, according to CNET.
This is a risky move for Intel, that will be beaten by ARM through comparisons if its product fails to deliver as good a mobile experience as the one of ARM and Nvidia. The probleme here lies within the Core platforms, that make the netbooks hot and heavy. Oaktrail, Medfield and Moorestown are on par with the Cortex A9 as far as processing power goes, so all that Intel can work with is a tablet-optimized Cedar Trail.
The result could be a low power, high performing dual core 1.8 GHz tablet, maybe the Samsung Slate PC pictured below. CNET seems to believe that the Windows 8 tablet shown at BUILD will be made by Samsung, that’s becoming ubiquiotous in every launch event lately. However, I’m not so sure I trust Intel to deliver a good mobile architecture with its CPU…
