ZTE V66 Android Tablet Comes with Verizon 4G LTE Connectivity, Found in FCC Documents

The good old FCC filing leaks are back, this time giving us a glimpse of a new 7 inch Android tablet made by ZTE. This is the Z66 model I’m talking about, one that comes with a 1.2GHz dual core processor and Android Honeycomb 3.2 as the operating system.

The tablet will be sold on Verizon, since it supports 4G LTE Connectivity on this carrier and the logo appears on the back of the device in the official documents. There aren’t any specs available just yet, aside from the presence of a camera, dual band WiFi, Bluetooth and EV-DO plus 1xRTT radios. The comments on the original piece about this tablet on The Verge has revealed an interesting attitude towards Chinese firms that try to enter the US market.

Take the ZTE V9 tablet with Froyo, that was priced at $99 and was a huge hit in Australia. It was very hard to get, if not impossible in the USA. It appears that the States’ government don’t quite like Chinese firms doing business in the USA and it’s very tough for Asian companies to enter the market and compete with giants such as Motorola or Apple.

ZTE V66 Passes Through FCC With Verizon 4G LTE – Possible Rebranded Tegra 3 ZTE T98?

This image has no alt text

Sprint will have the V55 and now it looks like ZTE will be bringing another version of their tablet to Big Red. The V66 has just made it past an FCC filing not revealing too much except for that all too familiar Verizon 4G LTE tramp stamp on its lower back. The ZTE V66 could have the same rumored specs of Sprint’s V55 giving it a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and running Android 3.2 Honeycomb on a 7-inch 1280×800 resolution screen.

Not too long ago, ZTE showed off the T98 at a tech exp in China and if the Verizon V66 and Sprint V55 are just a rebranding of that device — it’s possible we’re looking at a 7-inch, quad-core Tegra 3 tablet. We don’t see much of ZTE here in the states but it looks like all that’s about to change in 2012. We’ll keep you guys posted as we learn more.

ZTE to Make High-End Smartphone Push in the US

This image has no alt text

Though ZTE has only recently entered the US smartphone market, the company has a much longer history producing budget-level devices for other areas of the world. But now that a claim has been staked in American soil, ZTE America President Lixin Cheng has sights set on bigger and better things. With sales of ZTE devices up 157 percent year-over-year, Cheng sees the US as the manufacturer’s primary focus in the future. To further their cause ZTE is expected to produce a lineup of high-end smartphones that will compete head-to-head with the likes of Samsung, HTC, and Motorola.

The move is similar to that of Huawei, a smartphone manufacturer that once dealt exclusively in low-end and entry-level devices, mostly for emerging markets. Over the past year or two, Huawei has introduced their lineup to the US and moved on to higher caliber hardware. It is unlikely, however, that the likes of Huawei and ZTE will be challenging established brands for market supremacy any time soon. Their real strength lies in the ability to manufacturer hardware that combines desired features at a low cost.

ZTE hasn’t made any plans public, but it is assumed that Android will feature on at least one high-end device moving forward. The other likely option would be Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform.

Cricket is continuing their lineup of Muve Music-enable Android smartphones with the ZTE Chorus. Most notable for it;s low cost of $40 after rebates and inexpensive month-to-month service options, the Chorus won’t turn any heads with what it packs within its plastic shell. A meager 600MHz CPU, 3.2-inch resistive touch display, and 2MP camera all amount to something decidedly entry-level, but for those unwilling to sign away the next two years to a carrier to maintain subsidized pricing on more powerful hardware, it could be an option.

ZTE V55 Android Honeycomb Tablet Gets Ready for Sprint Debut

ZTE V55 was a mystery Android tablet back in October, one that reached the FCC and now it’s heading towards Sprint’s portofolio. The device has just been spotted at the Bluetooth SIG authority and aside from the “CDMA tablet with Bluetooth wireless technology”, we have no idea what this unit does.

However, we do know that the tablet runs Honeycomb, in what looks like a version with nifty widgets, provided that the image above isn’t heavily edited. I have no idea when ZTE V55 will be launched by Sprint, but when the details come out, you’ll be among the first to know. Keep in mind that sprint already has an Android phone from ZTE in its portofolio, the ZTE Warp handset, available only on Boost Mobile for now.

Considering ZTE’s usual low end and cheap products, this tablet should follow the same route and I guess that a $200 or so tablet with Honeycomb wouldn’t hurt anyone, especially if it comes with decent hardware.

ZTE V9C Light Tab Android Slate Gets Dissected at the FCC

There comes a time in a gadget’s life when it has to be stripped down of components and pictured in a gallery of detailed teardown. That time has come for the ZTE V9C Light Tab, an Android slate that has just reached the famous US authority known as the FCC.

This device is the most basic of tablets, sporting a 7 inch 800 x 480 pixel display, good old Android 2.3 Gingerbread and even 3G Connectivity. WiFi and Bluetooth are obviously included, as well as a front VGA camera and rear 3MP camera. Internal shots of the slate show that it comes with a Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, Samsung SDRAM and a pretty big battery.

The power unit here is a 3400 mAh battery and more info can be learned from the teardown pics below. Would you be willing to do that to your tablet, provided you had assistance and the tools?

T-Mobile Vivacity for Europe Hits Bluetooth SIG

This image has no alt text

We still don’t know a whole lot about the little fella you see above. It’s being dubbed the T-Mobile Vivacity and is said to be headed to the European sect of Deutsche Telekom’s popular mobile provider brand.

It’s a Gingerbread device made by ZTE and looks to be headed straight for the low-mid range market. And the fact that it was spotted at the Bluetooth SIG means it’ll have Bluetooth, of course. It’ll likely have a lot of other common smartphone components (otherwise it wouldn’t be a phone) but there are no concrete specs to be had yet. [Unwired View]

ZTE and Orange to Launch San Francisco II (ZTE Crescent)

This image has no alt text

Orange’s San Francisco (otherwise known as the ZTE Blade) will soon get a sequel. After sales surpassing 2 million units, the the Blade/San Francisco will give way to the ZTE Crescent . The handset will be known as the Orange San Francisco II when it launches on the namesake network, but little other info is available. From the only low-quality image we have of the device it seems we could again see a 3.5-inch screen. The only other distinguishing feature is the presence of three Android buttons. A Bluetooth SIG entry pegs the phone for a European release (duh) with a 3G radio on-board. When that release will happen, well, we just don’t know yet.

This image has no alt text

Boost Mobile’s announced upcoming availability of their latest smartphone offering, the ZTE Warp It’s a 4.3 inch Gingerbread device that sports a 1GHz single-core processor and a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. Interface customization seems minimal, too, with the SprintID icon on the dock looking to be the extent of their changes (at first glance, anyway). It doesn’t look like a bad phone at all, and considering it’ll cost $250 we can’t say we’d complain all that much. If you’re interested, the phone is out on November 2nd. Read on for full press details.

ZTE V55 Tablet hits the FCC

This image has no alt text

ZTE’s new Android tablet looks like it’s being primed for launch as it has made its final stop to the FCC. While ZTE may not be known as a quality brand, they look to impress with this device just as any other Honeycomb tablet manufacturer has. It’ll have a 10.1 inch display, a 1.2GHz processor and will be headed to Sprint (no WiMax radios inside this thing, though). We expect this thing sometime early next year, if not sooner. [FCC, via]
