Stingray tablet gets new moniker

Motorola's Honeycomb touting tablet, as shown off by Google's Andy Rubin and then teased in a brilliant video by the manufacturer looks like it is going to be one of the talking points of CES 2011.

And whilst the Motorola Stingray has often been mentioned as the tablet's name, it appears that this may have just been a guise. For several reports are suggesting a tasty new moniker for the device, that falls more in-line with the company's other Android devices - the Motorola Droid Xoom.

But one thing the tablet won't be bringing is 4G (LTE) connectivity. At least not directly.

Reports suggest that 4G connectivity may be available through an optional LTE modem that will plug in to a PCI express expansion slot on the tablet.

This way, people who want the LTE option can get it, and people who don't (or rather, can't) don't have to worry about the extra cost.

Following the CES launch, it's expected that Motorola will begin advertising the tablet, possibly even with a Superbowl slot, with a? view to getting the Droid Xoom in the shops by 14 February - the day Mobile World Congress kicks off in Barcelona.
