ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Versus Toshiba Thrive (Video)

If you want to put two Honeycomb tablets to the test, you probably will have a hard time finding two products as similar as the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer and the Toshiba Thrive. They’re similar in specs, albeit the Transformer brings that little extra of an accessory called keyboard dock.

Both feature 10.1 inch displays with capacitive IPS technology and 1280 x 800 pixel resolutions. Also, both slates come with front cameras, but the Toshiba unit has the upper hand, with a 2MP resolution, opposed to the Transformer’s 1.2 megapixel resolution.  They go for the draw again, as both possess a 5 megapixel camera without flash, but with autofocus and geotagging.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is capable of 720p HD video capture, unlike the Thrive, that’s only content with standard definition capture. Another win is recorded by the ASUS product in the storage section, where it’s available in 16GB and 32GB versions, while the Thrive only comes with 16GB of internal memory.

For those looking for increased portability, the Transformer is thinner and lighter, at 13mm in thickness and 680 grams in weight, compared to the Transformer with 771 grams as weight and 15mm in waistline. Other common features of these rivals are the presence of 1GB of RAM, WiFi only connectivity and Adobe Flash support.

A big appeal of the Toshiba slate is its removable battery. More differences can be spotted in the comparison video below:

Toshiba Thrive Honeycomb Tablet Gets Unboxed Early (Video)

Toshiba Thrive is one of the most awaited Honeycomb tablets in the USA, being an affordable Android 3.0 model. This unit comes in a 16GB flavor with a $480 price tag, while the 32GB model will be sold for $580. It seems that an 8GB model will also be available for an appealing $430.

However, the 8GB unit will be available in small quantities, in spite of its appeal. Well, we’re here to show you the unboxing of the Thrive model, that you can see below. This 7 inch unit is unboxed ahead of its launch and before you start the clip, know that the video is silent. You can see the device removed from packaging and a quick video of the Toshiba unit, plus content of the box.

Thrive will go on sale on July 10 and it seems to be a bit thicker than its rivals, to be honest. There’s a plus, though: its battery is replaceable, something that people have been wanting on slates for a while now.

Toshiba Thrive Tablet Name Spotted on Product Portal

Toshiba’s got a Honeycomb tablet coming, that’s for sure, but what about the name of the 10.1 inch Honeycomb slate? Turns out that the device will actually be named Toshiba Thrive, according to a parking page for the product.

Also, Toshiba took care of the Thrive name registration previously, so this move could be related to the new tablet. The last time that this unit was mentioned, we’ve heard that Toshiba’s tablet would be called Antares or ATN300, but Thrive sounds a lot more interesting. No info on the pricing and availability of the device, that’s also known as Regza AT300 in Japan and scheduled for a June release in the region.
