As far as I know the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 were products that went hand in hand, so with the launch of the bigger device we should have also seen the 8.9 inch version taking off. Well, it turns out that the European launch of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 was delayed because of Honeycomb issues and now the screen has an issue.
Apparently, Samsung is facing a shortage of displays used for this device, having to replace the 8.9 inch G1F touch panels with a different technology. However, the alternative screen is less bright and thicker than the original one, actually 30-40% thicker, adding to the bulkiness of the slate.
There’s an extra layer inside the screen, adding to the thickness and in case you’re wondering the tablet keeps the same price, no matter what version you get. The thing is that only certain parts of the world will be affected by this issue, so all you can do is hope for the best.
