Verizon iPad 2s pulled for manufacturing glitch

Apple has responded to reports that it was recalling Verizon iPad 2s by saying that only a small number of devices were affected, and that it was a minor manufacturing glitch at fault. It was not a technical problem with the tablets themselves.

The glitch meant that some of the iPad 2s ended up carrying identity codes that were already in use on other Apple products, and they could, therefore, cause problems with the Verizon network. Apple said that the error?occurred?on only an "extremely small" number of shipped units. It was these devices that the company was replacing, with some deliveries being turned around in mid-transit.

However, affected customers who were told a delivery date for their iPad 2s only for them to be returned to sender have been reporting that Apple is offering them compensation of either $50 credit or accessories for their new device.
